I’m working on some forest animal characters for the Foam Friends line that are themed around springtime, Easter, and Valentines. I’ve only made the deer so far, but I can’t seem to settle on a name. Any suggestions?
This past weekend, my friends and I teamed up to participate in The Great Chair Hack Competition at MODA (Museum of Design Atlanta), in which each team is given a chair from Ikea and three hours to design and construct anything BUT a chair from its parts!
The rules were as followed:
- Each team must use the entire structure of the chair (with the exception of hardware) in their completed project.
- Teams are allowed the use of and should supply their own hand tools. Battery operated tools, such as drills and screwdrivers are allowed, but corded tools (think: circular saws) are not.
- You may bring additional materials or go out and purchase supplies during the competition. However, your chair must be built on site at MODA.
- Each team may spend no more than $50 on additional supplies.
- NO Paint!
The chair was revealed only at the start of the event to be the IVAR.
Within the allotted time, my team designed the IVÄRT Easel, a completely collapsable and easily transportable children’s easel, and we placed third in the competition!
Go Team Pup ‘N Suds!

Today’s kids are a lot more cued up on what goes around them, not just in terms of technology and media, but also in terms of encrusted marketing tactics. This is just one example, but as kids get more and more share of voice through the social web, marketers will need to find better answers for this girl Riley and her friends
After making Purrsia, I felt the other two magic-themed kittens lacked the same level of personality and dimension found in their tiger genie friend. So I went back to further develop their individual characteristics and even went as far as to changing their names!
The witch cat is now named Jynx (jinx + lynx), and the fairy kitten’s name is now Felina (feline + pron. Selena).
